Book Buddies with Mrs. Hartley's Class

Ms. Strum ALWAYS tells us that we are the best class in the whole school, and we are! Mrs. Hartley and Ms. Gooseberry teach 2nd grade. One day Mrs. Hartley came to Ms. Strum and they talked about doing book buddies together. Each 2nd grade student in Mrs. Hartley and Ms. Gooseberry's class is paired with a 4th grade student in Ms. Strum's class. Ms. Strum has been telling us that we are to be leaders and set a good example for our book buddy.

Marquez and Armand working on their Book Buddy assignment.

Our 1st meeting with our book buddy, we worked together and created a venn diagram comparing how we are alike and how we are different. Each Tuesday, we will meet and read a different book. We will also work with our book buddy and complete a reading comprehension flip chart based on what they read.

We look forward to every Tuesday, because we know that we are going to be able to read and work with our book buddy. We love it when Mrs. Hartley and Ms. Gooseberry's class come to our room. We can't wait until next week! :)

This week Ms. Strum divided us into SIX groups to play a game called SURVIVOR! Each group decided on a group name and decorated their poster accordingly. Ms. Strum told us that each week we could earn points based on behavior, homework, and academic points. Read Across America/Dr. Seuss' Birthday

The Library all set up for Read Across America Day!

We were celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday.

Today our school celebrated Read Across America Day as well as Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We were very fortunate to have college students that are in school to become teachers come and read to us. Ms. Sasser works hard with Dr. Sheppard to make sure that there are enough readers to come to our school.

Ms. Amber Cockrell came and read to our class. Ms. Cockrell read Bartholomew and the Oobleck. It was the first time for some of us to hear this story that was written by Dr. Seuss.

We are enjoying listening to Ms. Cockrell read Bartholomew and the Oobleck.

What a GREAT book!

A SPECIAL THANKS to Ms. Cockrell for coming and reading to our class. We enjoyed celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday with you!

Ms. Sasser hard at work making sure that everyone has a Dr. Seuss' Reader.

Singular to Plural

Today Ms. Strum reviewed with us the rules for changing a singular noun to a plural noun. Ms. Strum divided into groups. We were each given six to eight singular nouns. Ms. Strum told us that we would work with our group and determine what rule we would use to change the noun from a singular to a plural noun.
Andrew and Kerronta hard at work!
Ms. Strum told us to write our singular nouns on the sentence strips provided. We glued these words on the singular noun side of the construction paper. With our group, we looked at the singular noun and determined what rule we would follow to change it to a plural noun. We wrote the plural form of the noun on the sentence strip and glue it beside the singular noun. Ms. Strum had us write on the plural noun sentence strip what rule we followed, and what we changed.
Working together to finish our work!
