Our Field Trip to the Symphony

Today we went on our 1st Field Trip! We went to a very special building to hear the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. All of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students were able to go! It was a great experience.

What excitement! We are now ready to hear the Symphony perform! We went into the hall to find our seats. The Symphony came onto the stage. They told us that they were going to take us on a trip around the world. As you can tell in the pictures below, there are suitcases on the stage. Random students in the audience were able to pick a numbered suitcase. They had music to play for every place that we went! It was a great experience.

Black History Rap Practice

We have the BEST music teacher ever! In one month, all the fourth graders at our school will be presenting a Black History Program. Ms. Strum tells us all the time that we are the best class in the whole school. Since we are the best class, Mrs. Williams wrote us our very own rap to perform at the program. The rap is entitled I am a Promise.

Today Mrs. Williams came to our room to begin teaching us I am a Promise. Mrs. Williams broke us into several groups. The rap breaks us into different groups. I am a Promise is about us knowing that we can do anything that we want to, if we put our mind to it!

Happy 70th Birthday Junior League!

Today we were very excited! We helped celebrate the Junior League's 70th Birthday! We were so anxious. Today Mrs. Tosha and Mrs. Drew came to our room to read us a very special book called The Quiltmaker's Gift.

Mrs. Drew and Mrs. Tasha asked us what it means to volunteer. We told them that when we volunteer, we help others.

After reading The Quiltmaker's Gift, Mrs. Tasha and Mrs. Drew talked to us about what we learned from the story. Mrs. Tasha and Mrs. Drew taught us that it is better to give than to receive!

After Mrs. Tasha and Mrs. Drew read to us, Mrs. Suzanne came by to do an art project with us. Mrs. Suzanne reviewed The Quiltmaker's Gift with us.

Mrs. Suzanne gave each one of us a quilt square. We talked with Mrs. Suzanne about what we would draw on our quilt square. We decided that we would draw hands or hearts. The hands or hearts would represent the Junior League helping others!

Once all the quilt squares were done, the Junior League would take all the quilt squares to a quiltmaker to be put together. The quilts will be on display at the Junior League House!

We were so excited to be part of such a special day for the Junior League! Happy 70th Birthday to the Junior League! Thank you so much for everything! We had a great day!

We are so VERY fortunate to have the Junior League sponsor our school with RIF! RIF stands for Reading is Fundamental. RIF allows everyone in our school to receive a book of their choice!

A Penguin Christmas

At our school tonight, we had our Christmas program. This program was presented by the 1st graders and the 4th and 5th grade Show Choir. The program was called "A Penguin Christmas". The whole program was GREAT! Our music teacher, Mrs. Williams, does a FANTASTIC job getting everything organized and making sure that everyone knows their parts! Please take a look at the pictures below and see what a great program everyone presented!

As you can tell, it was a GREAT presentation of "A Penguin Christmas". Our PTA programs are always the best! A HUGE Thank You to Mrs. Williams and the 1st grade teachers for all their hard work! It was a great show!

Pronouns

Today Miss Gibson taught us a lesson on PRONOUNS! Miss Gibson reviewed with us that a noun is a person, place, thing, or animal. She reviewed this with us because we must know what a noun is to understand the concept of pronouns. Miss Gibson taught us that PRONOUNS are words that replace nouns! She had several sentences written on chart paper where we had to identify the noun and then replace it with the correct pronoun using the circle map of pronouns provided! Miss Gibson then had us work with a partner and write a paragraph using pronouns. The students then shared their paragraphs with the class. The rest of the class had to list the pronouns that they heard throughout the paragraph!

We did a great job on our Pronoun paragraphs. Ms. Strum and Miss Gibson were so impressed. After the Christmas holidays, Ms. Strum is going to teach us more about specific pronouns!
